Sight Height Differences: Standard Height vs Optic Height vs Suppressor Height

Why sight height matters
Sight height determines what you can see over your slide and what your irons line up with. Choosing the wrong height can block your optic window, sit too low to be useful, or add unnecessary bulk.

Quick rule of thumb
No optic: Standard Height
Optic only: Optic Height
Suppressor or very tall optic setup: Suppressor Height

Standard Height – Tritium Front & Tritium Rear Sights for Ruger RXM

Standard Height Sights
Designed for pistols without optics. These sit low on the slide and offer a clean, traditional sight picture. Best choice if you are running irons only.

Optic Height – Tritium Sights for Glock MOS (17,19,22,26,31,34,45,47) Optic Height – Tritium Sights for Walther PDP

Optic Height Sights
Built to co-witness with slide-mounted red dots. These sit taller than standard sights so they remain visible through the optic window. Ideal as backup irons for duty or carry pistols running optics.

Suppressor Height – Tritium Sights for Glock MOS (17/19/22/26/31/34/45/47)

Suppressor Height Sights
The tallest option. These are designed to clear suppressors and tall accessories while still providing a usable iron sight picture. They can also be used for lower-third co-witness setups depending on optic and slide configuration.

Why sight profile matters
Sight profile affects how the sights interact with clothing, holsters, and hands. It also impacts durability and comfort during concealed carry.

Standard Profile
Traditional square-cut rear sight. Familiar feel, strong ledges, and a classic sight picture. This is the most common profile shooters are used to.

JRO Profile
A refined, low-snag profile with softened edges and a streamlined shape. Designed to reduce snagging during draw and reholstering while still maintaining a clean, usable sight picture. Many shooters prefer this profile for carry and duty use.

Which should you choose
If you want a traditional feel, go Standard.
If you prioritize smooth draws and reduced snag risk, go JRO.
